IABT Announces Indoor Women’s Triathlon Fundraiser

International Association of Black Triathletes Announces an Indoor Women’s Triathlon Fundraiser

The International Association of Black Triathletes (IABT) is a Maryland-based nonprofit that is dedicated to encouraging the participation of individuals, especially those in urban communities in multi-disciplinary sports. The IABT is announcing its fall fundraising event, the Indoor Women’s Triathlon on October 15th, 2017.

Baltimore, MD-06/22/17—IABT is a Baltimore based nonprofit whose mission is to make an impact on the lives everywhere but especially in urban communities through the use of multi-disciplinary sports and the promotion of healthy bodies and minds. The organization has several different outreach programs to target problems within the community that it supports. The Indoor Women’s Triathlon fundraiser will be raising funds for the Fighting Childhood 2 Adult Obesity program and their collegiate scholarship endeavors. Women ages 14 and up are encouraged to participate.

“We believe that healthy bodies are healthy minds and are focused on creating programs to combat obesity and increase the health benefits for youth and young adults in our area,” says Executive Director/USA Triathlon Race Director/Coach, Dr. Tekemia Dorsey. “Multi-disciplined sports are a great way to not only improve health but cognitive thinking skills, enhance leadership, communication and teamwork. Our indoor triathlon will help to not only raise funds for our anti-obesity program but also give people the opportunity to strengthen their bodies as they train for the triathlon.”

The event will be held on Sunday, October 15th, 2017 at LA Fitness in Lansdowne, MD.  The event takes place in three parts at the facility: swimming, cycling (stationary bikes), and running (treadmill).  Each participant will receive a T-Shirt, a medal, swag bags, and recognition for their contribution to the program.

“We are so thankful to have a partner in LA Fitness,” says Dr. Dorsey. “Being able to hold this type of event and receive their support for the work we do is extremely gratifying. We hope to see women of all ages and fitness levels sign up and train for this event.”
