Baltimore, MD

The International Association of Black Triathletes (IABT) is a regional nonprofit based out of Baltimore, MD that works with area youth to develop healthy habits, strong minds and bodies, and the leadership skills that will help them to lead healthy, happy lives. The focus of the summer TRI/DU Youth Education & Leadership Employment Training Program (youth ages 13-24) is to introduce young adults to soft skills, vocational and occupational training, and leadership development and training. Their goal is to introduce them to a new industry sector, as well as, train them in multi-disciplined sports. As part of this program, IABT’s is announcing their summer Overcoming Childhood Obesity Conference and Duathlon this July 26th at Mervo High School, 3500 Hillen Road in Baltimore, MD.

Executive Director and USAT Certified Race Director/Coach, Dr. Tekemia Dorsey says, “It is an exciting opportunity to introduce to the next generation an unfamiliar industry for them, and we accomplish this by intertwining that new knowledge with ones they are familiar with. Our young adult participants learn how they can work together for a bigger and better future for self and others.”

She explains that the youth in their programs are still choosing career paths and looking at college opportunities. The programs they are developing will open more doors in life. “This is what we should be doing for our youth and communities, enhancing their knowledge and shaping their futures,” says Dorsey. The participants will be engaged in training, development, roles and responsibilities, as well as, learning how to host events. Sponsors for the event are welcome as well as Donation; those interested should contact Dr. Dorsey through her email (iabtriathletes@gmail.com )
